[ARCHIVED] Mill Valley/Sausalito Multiuse Path to be Resurfaced this Fall

From Marin County Parks:

About a mile and a half of the Mill Valley/Sausalito Multiuse Path, a popular and scenic bayside route, will undergo a surface treatment for preventative maintenance. The improvement project is anticipated to start in late September and finish by the end of October, depending on weather and tidal conditions. Toward the end of the project, the work will require closure of the pathway on two separate occasions, each time for approximately 24-48 hours.

The pathway, which is maintained by Marin County Parks, connects two of southern Marin’s cities and facilitates nonmotorized access to neighborhoods, shops, schools, several sports fields, and a dog park. The heavily used route recently had several bridges repaired, and the upcoming work will provide targeted repairs and a pavement sealant treatment, improving ease of travel for all users from Almonte Boulevard to Gate 6 Road.

The $192,000 project is funded my Parks’ Measure A, a quarter-cent countywide sales tax.

Construction work will be conducted on weekdays during daytime hours. The contractor crews will strive to minimize disruption for users of the pathway, emphasizing safety during construction. Signage will be posted in the area to alert the public of the construction activities, and nearby stakeholders will receive advance notification from Parks staff. Changes to the construction schedule and notification of the two days of full path closure, once solidified, will be announced via direct stakeholder outreach and on social media platforms.

“This is our most visited pathway in the county,” said Max Korten, Director of Marin County Parks. “The planned improvements will bring the pathway up to a standard that we will be proud of and enable people to enjoy the bayside route for many years to come.”
