After Hours - Dr. Pete Simi: Hidden Spaces of Hate

Friday, September 15th | Main Reading Room – 7:00pm

Chapman University’s Pete Simi (co-author, American Swastika: Inside the White Power Movement’s Hidden Spaces of Hate) addresses the current political moment, why so many white supremacists have become emboldened to move out of the shadows, and why they are now openly mobilizing across the country. He will also discuss issues to consider in terms of how Americans can respond to this growing threat.

Through 20 years of extensive fieldwork with active and former members of extremist movements and conventional street gangs, Simi (Earl Babbie Research Center Director) has studied how individuals and groups develop, sustain, and, in some cases, transform violent identities. He is working on book projects on domestic terrorism and the white supremacist movement’s recent rebranding.
