Experimental laboratories and medical schools around the world are contributing to our knowledge of how psychedelic drugs affect the mind and brain. Dr. Barrett will discuss recent findings and preliminary data from clinical studies investigating the effects of psilocybin mushrooms on healthy volunteers, as well as patients with mood disorders.
Dr. Fred Barrett earned his PhD in cognitive neuroscience at U.C. Davis and studied the neuropsychopharmacology of psilocybin with Dr. Roland Griffiths at Johns Hopkins University. His work explores the neural basis of emotional functioning and altered states of consciousness.
Doors open for the Marin Mycological Society’s meeting at 6:30pm, followed by the mushroom talk at 7:15pm.
