Our favorite Irish emcee David Nihill returns to host a fabulous night of true, live storytelling featuring Jeff Hanson, a regular at Moth GrandSLAMs; Brandon Spars, a three-time Moth winner (including two GrandSLAMs); and Dixie De La Tour, founder and host of Bawdy Storytelling. These seasoned storytellers will be joined by newbie Liesl Ramsay, whose story about the the Santa Rosa fire coincides with its one-year anniversary.
About the storytellers:
Emcee David Nihill is a bestselling author, featured in Inc, NPR, Huffington Post, Forbes, and the Irish Times. David was recently part of the Irish Kings of Comedy Tour and SF Sketchfest. A Moth StorySLAM winner and GrandSLAM finalist, David has also told tales at Porchlight, Fireside and Litquake. davidnihill.com
Jeff Hanson, a midwestern native and the son of farmers and factory workers, came to California in the ‘80s. Along the way, he met many zany characters who became the stuff of story. Two years ago, he began sharing his tales, which have earned him appearances at four Moth GrandSLAMs, the West Side Stories GrandSLAM, the Throckmorton Theatre, and many other venues around the Bay.
Brandon Spars lived and traveled in Indonesia and the Pacific Islands before earning a Master of Arts in Southeast Asian Studies and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies at UC Berkeley. Brandon’s Live to Tell collection of tales includes scripts of award-winning performances. He is a TEDx speaker, five-time Moth Winner (two GrandSLAMs) and three-time West Side Stories Winner (two GrandSLAMs).
Dixie de la Tour is a sexual folklorist and the curator and host of the original sex and storytelling series, Bawdy Storytelling. Bawdy (celebrating its 10-year anniversary this month) features true stories of sex, kink, body image, gender and more, and uses the power of storytelling to build community, promote acceptance and connection, and bring people together. bawdystorytelling.com
Liesl Ramsay is CEO of one of the oldest companies in Santa Rosa, a 110-year-old generator company. She is passionate about building better cities, emergency preparedness, and learning what motivates people toward change. Being “on-call” 24/7 gives Liesl a unique perspective of life, and her “free” time is often spent doing interior design projects (with her rescue dog by her side).
