The City of Mill Valley is pleased to announce the installation of a high-tech Ultra-Violet (UV) water disinfection and filtration system in the newly renovated Aquatics and Fitness Center. This system will provide a healthier pool environment, save City operating funds, and benefit the environment.
“This is the upgrade the community has been clamoring for,” said Recreation Director Jenny Rogers, “and we are thrilled to offer the new UV system as a pool amenity in our newly renovated Aquatics Facility.” The UV system successfully disinfects pool waterwhile using less chlorine, which can cause skin and eye irritation, produces strong odors, and fades swimwear. The system will allow staff to use fewer chemicals in the pool, thus reducing the amount of fresh water needed for pool operations
Jill Barnes, the Director of Public Works said, “The UV water cleaning system will improve our comfort and enjoyment of the pool and contribute to a healthier environment."
This state-of-the-art filtration system will save the City operating and maintenance costs, reducing the need to purchase sanitizing chemicals and greatly reducing the amount of maintenance hours spent equalizing and balancing chemicals. The City Council approved the allocation of $40,000 from the General Fund for the new system.
The Aquatics and Fitness Center re-opened today at 6:30am. As a special welcome back, Mill Valley Recreation will be hosting an Aquatics & Fitness Center Open House
