Live Scan is an automated digital fingerprinting service offered through the California Department of Justice. A person's fingers are digitally scanned and electronically transmitted to agencies such as the California Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation for background records checks. Live Scan fingerprints are used for licensing/permits/certifications and applicant pre-employment purposes.
Live Scan services are provided for a $20 rolling fee (in addition to fees for DOJ/FBI processing) at the Public Safety Building, 1 Hamilton Drive, Mill Valley. By appointment only, Monday - Thursday. To make a Live Scan appointment, please call 415.389.4100 x4118.
