The City of Mill Valley has a truck route ordinance that clarifies the approved route for large trucks and commercial vehicles in excess of 3 tons unladen weight (with exceptions made for local deliveries where violating the truck route is the only accessible way to reach a particular location). Compliance with the truck route provides for more expedient deliveries and may help reduce traffic collisions, excessive noise and heavy wear-and-tear to our residential roadways.
Sometimes large trucks cut through residential neighborhoods from East Blithedale Avenue to access businesses on Miller Avenue or the downtown area. These residential areas have narrow, winding roadways and are the main access for many young children who walk and bike to schools in the area. In addition to being unsafe, commercial vehicles in residential areas compound already congested traffic conditions.
If you live in a residential area that experiences commercial trucks cutting-through the neighborhood, you can report this violation. The Mill Valley Police Department is offering a Truck Route Violation Reporting Form to report this type of activity.
