Posted Date: 3/20/2014
City Hall City Manager Jim McCann has appointed Vincent Smith as Interim Director of Planning and Building for the City of Mill Valley. Vin began his duties this week to manage the operations of the Planning and Building Department.

"Vin Smith is very capable planner who has worked in the North Bay area in both the public and private sectors for the past 25 years,” said McCann. “We are very fortunate to have a professional with his depth of knowledge and experience in development, environmental and design review, as well as land use policy development to assume this interim leadership role."

Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in City and Regional Planning from the School of Architecture and Environmental Design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He is also a graduate of the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a Certified Green Building Professional. Mr. Smith worked for the Cities of Petaluma, Napa, and the Southern California community of Moreno Valley before entering into private planning consulting, providing services to public and private clients.

“I am eager to help Mill Valley in this interim capacity,” said Mr. Smith. “I was raised in San Rafael, and I am very familiar with Mill Valley and Marin County. I look forward to learning about the current activities in Mill Valley and managing the department to address community needs.”

“I recognize the special attributes of Mill Valley and its long history of emphasis on good planning,” he continued, “I am excited to be a part of the City organization and look forward to assisting to address immediate needs and to make progress on the important planning projects before the community.”
