East Blithedale Summer Construction Update - July 22
Posted Date: 7/22/2013

East Blithedale Construction 1 v150

East Blithedale Construction 2 v150

East Blithedale Construction 3 v150

Here is the latest news on the East Blithedale road construction project:

What has been done: Sewer construction crews have installed approximately 1,500 feet of the sewer main between Amicita Avenue and Locust Ave and approximately 200 feet between Camino Alto and Ryan Ave.

What is in progress: The sewer line replacement construction on East Blithedale Avenue continues with two sewer construction crews working on the project. In addition there is a PG&E gas line relocation crew working on East Blithedale Avenue between Elm Avenue and Mesa Avenue.

The first sewer construction crew will be working between Locust Avenue and Alta Vista Avenue continuing west toward downtown and the second sewer construction crew will begin the week working at the intersection of Ryan Avenue and East Blithedale Avenue heading west toward downtown. Lane closures of 200’-300’ at each location should be expected.

The combination of the sewer line and gas line work will cause multiple, alternating lane closures and traffic delays will increase. The use of alternate route is strongly encouraged.

What to expect in the next few weeks: Sewer construction crews will continue installing the sewer main on East Blithedale Avenue. Upon completion of the sewer main installation the sewer construction crews will begin connecting the existing house sewer laterals to the new sewer main. Concrete repairs to the sidewalks and driveways will begin shortly after the start of the sewer laterals connections.

The City recommends that motorists:

  • Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.
  • Add time to your trip and plan ahead.  Avoid using East Blithedale if possible.  Use the recommended detours of Miller Avenue or Camino Alto during construction. See the detour map below:
