Emergency Preparedness Commission Unscheduled Vacancy

The Mill Valley City Council is seeking to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the Emergency Preparedness Commission. The term will run from the date of appointment to February 28, 2014, where at that time the chosen applicant will be able to reapply for a new three year term.

The Emergency Preparedness Commission assists the City in preparing for, responding to, recovering from and mitigating a disaster. The Commission’s duties include but are not limited to: 1) Identification and organization of community groups, including residential neighborhood associations, schools and businesses, 2) Promotion of community emergency response training, 3) creating and maintaining a Doctors’ and Nurses’ registry, 4) Education of residents on ways to be self sufficient in a disaster; and 5) Recommendations to the City Council on preparedness matters.

The Committee shall be compromised of seven members that serve three year terms on a rotating term schedule. One member of the Commission may reside outside of the Mill Valley city limits, but within the boundaries of the Mill Valley Elementary School District. The current six members of the Commission are all residents of the City of Mill Valley. Staff will accept applications from both City residents and County residents at this time. All applicants shall be individuals with a demonstrated interest and knowledge of emergency preparedness. The Emergency Preparedness Commission is an advisory Commission to the City Council and City staff with no decision or policy making authority. Staff support of the Emergency Preparedness Commission is provided by the Fire Department led by the City’s Fire Chief.

Commission meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Upstairs Conference Room at City Hall, 26 Corte Madera Avenue, Mill Valley, CA.
