Mill Valley Police Offer Anti-Burglary Tips
Recent increase in residential burglaries

Burglar

A recent increase in residential burglaries throughout Southern Marin has prompted the Mill Valley Police Department to offer some anti-burglary tips:

Always lock your doors -- even when you leave your home for a short time.
If you have an alarm system, set it every time you are away from your home.  A dog can also be an effective alarm system.
Burglars are usually looking for jewelry so hiding your valuables in a locked and hidden safe or in another room besides the bedroom is a good idea.  Have photos and appraisals of jewelry in case of a theft.
Don't let your mail, papers and packages pile up -- stop delivery or have a neighbor pick it up.
Look into using timers for your lights and TV to give an impression that someone is at home.
If you see someone or something that is suspicious (person going house to house, activity at a vacant house, solicitors, etc.) call 911.

The Mill Valley Police Department offers Vacation Watch checks for residents while they are away.

The MVPD also offers home security checks to "harden" your home using the Three L's (locks, lighting and landscaping).  If you are interested in a check, please contact info@cityofmillvalley.org.

For information about starting a Neighborhood Watch in your area, please contact spatton@cityofmillvalley.org or visit www.usaonwatch.org  for more information.
