Legendary Locals of Mill Valley
Tuesday, June 3rd | 7:30pm
Mill Valley Historical Society member and former Mill Valley Herald columnist Joyce Kleiner (“Civics Lessons”) will be speaking about her new book Legendary Locals of Mill Valley (released in May 2014, Arcadia Publishing).  Legendary Locals of Mill Valley tells the stories of just some of the many people whose contributions or experiences have played a role in making modern Mill Valley what it is. The book covers a broad range of people, from Chief Marin of the Coastal Miwoks, and early land settlers such as John Reed and William Richardson, to Rita Abrams and her famous song “Mill Valley,” and toilet seat guitar artist Charlie Deal. Joyce will tell some of these tales, as well as describe her own journey in seeking out these stories.

About Joyce Kleiner:
Joyce’s column "Civics Lessons" ran in the Mill Valley Herald from 2007 to 2012, and she remains a guest contributor for the newspaper. Her columns and essays have also been featured in the Marin Independent Journal, Ross Valley Reporter, Novato Advance, Mill Valley Patch, the literary journal Dos Passos Review, and the Mill Valley Historical Society Review magazine (2013 and 2014). Legendary Locals of Mill Valley is her first book.
