The Friends of the Mill Valley Library presents Monday Night at the Movies. This month the Friends will present three films featuring actress Judy Garland.

Monday, August 11th @ 7:30 PM

The Pirate (1948)

Directed by Vincente Minnelli, "The Pirate" features a flimsy fictional plot designed to showcase the stars doing what they do best, singing and dancing. Adapted from the hit Broadway stage production, it features music by Cole Porter, including the hit "Be a Clown". Along with Garland the film stars Gene Kelly and the legendary Nicholas Brothers, acrobatic African American tap dancers. Garland's ballads included "Mack the Black," "You Can Do No Wrong" and "Love of My Life". As one reviewer wrote, "Vincent Minelli's magical eye, the voice of Garland, the charisma of Kelly, and Cole Porter music. What else do you need?"

Doors open at 7:00. This series is sponsored by The Friends of the Mill Valley Library. For more Programs and Events at the Library, see the Library Events Calendar.
