Monday Night Movies: The Bigamist
7/7/2014 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
The Friends of the Mill Valley Library presents Monday Night at the Movies. This month the Friends will present three films helmed by women directors.
Monday, July 7th @ 7:30 PM
Ida Lupino - The Bigamist (1933)
Harry (Edmond O’Brien) and Eve (Joan Fontaine) are trying to adopt a baby. In the course of a background check, the head of the adoption agency notices that Harry has been doing a lot of travelling from his home in San Francisco to Los Angeles and discovers that Harry has another wife, Phyllis (Ida Lupino) in L.A. In a series of flashbacks, Harry reveals how he ended up in two marriages. Unusual for Film Noir, Lupino treats the potentially sordid subject of bigamy as the very human story of a man torn between two women. This is the first film in which a leading actress also directed.
Doors open at 7:00. This series is sponsored by The Friends of the Mill Valley Library. For more Programs and Events at the Library, see the Library Events Calendar.
