First Friday: An Evening of Chamber Music by the Fireplace
Friday, January 3rd
Main Reading Room - 7pm
Wine reception at 6:30pm for pre-registered guests.

For adults and high school students only. No one younger will be admitted.

*Registration is strongly recommended.

The Mill Valley Public Library will present its first event of 2014 in the “First Friday” series by marking the 40th season of concerts presented by the Mill Valley Chamber Music Society.  The Chamber Music Society has long produced world-class music in Mill Valley, and received a proclamation this year by Mayor Andrew Berman of Mill Valley, acknowledging its significant contribution to the cultural life of Mill Valley and its promotion of musical education in the schools.

The First Friday concert will include a violin and piano recital featuring sonatas by Handel and Brahms and Bartok’s Romanian Dances. Performers will include Frank Bliss on violin and Bill Horne on piano. Bliss, from Albany, has wide experience, ranging from playing in a European orchestra to local orchestras. He also volunteers teaching strings at Albany High. Horne is president of the Mill Valley Chamber Music Society and serves on several chamber organization boards. He has played piano since age 6, and has specialized in chamber music for the past 27 years. He is also a proud Mill Valley Library volunteer.

Registration for this event is full but there is a good chance you can still get a seat.  No shows and last-minute cancellations usually free up seats.  Please check back to the web site from time to time.  Registration may re-open as cancellations occur, or feel free to stop by the night of the event and join the wait line.  We will begin letting the wait line in at 6:45, based on available seating. The earlier you show up, the better.

This event is free and open to the public.

What are First Fridays?
Debuting in January 2011 in celebration of the Library's centennial year, the ongoing "First Fridays" series presents different narratives, ideas and presentations that an audience might otherwise not consider or experience. First Fridays are for adults and high school students.

The Venue:
The Library's Main Reading Room is transformed into a beautiful venue for First Friday events. Built in 1966, the Library is nestled among the redwoods in an award-winning building and reflects the diverse intellectual interests of the community.

The Experience:
Programs typically last 90 minutes (includes Q&A). First Fridays feature a wine reception before and after our program. Patrons enjoy the intimate atmosphere and ability to meet our presenters. Attendance ranges between 115 and 260 people per event.

Thank you to the Mill Valley Library Foundation and the Friends for their generous support of Library programs and services. Click here to support Library events.
