Ernest Clayton Wildflower Images
Ernest Clayton was our grandfather. Seventy years ago, on walks in Marin hills, he taught us to know and love our wildflowers and we helped him collect specimens for his watercolor studies. Sixty years ago, just before his death, he sold his collection of almost 200 studies to the San Francisco Public Library. Forty years ago we went to visit the flowers in the Library and when we realized again how very beautiful they were, and that they spent most of their time in two wooden boxes in the basement archives, we vowed to someday make his art more accessible to the public. Two years ago we formed a partnership, ERNEST CLAYTON WILDFLOWER IMAGES, (ECWI) and got to work. Our current collection includes the fifty framed Giclee prints displayed on these walls. Profits from our venture are shared by The San Francisco Public Library, the San Anselmo Public Library, and the California Native Plant Society. It is giving us great pleasure to bring this late blooming heritage to life. It is never too late.
